The protection rating of prefabricated substations is primarily indicated by IP codes (Ingress Protection), which measure the equipment enclosure's ability to protect against the intrusion of solid foreign objects (such as dust) and water, ensuring its safe and stable operation in complex outdoor environments.
Based on industry standards and actual product configurations, common protection ratings include:
IP54: Dustproof rating 5 (does not completely prevent dust ingress, but the amount ingress does not affect normal equipment operation), waterproof rating 4 (protects against splashes of water from any direction). This is the basic protection standard for most prefabricated substations and is suitable for general outdoor environments.
IP55: Stronger waterproof capability, withstands low-pressure water jets from any direction, suitable for use in rainy or high-humidity areas.
IP65: Dustproof rating 6 (completely prevents dust ingress), waterproof rating 5 (protects against water jet ingress), provides a higher level of sealing protection, often used in harsh environments or industrial locations with high reliability requirements.
IP66: Withstands strong water jets or wave impacts, suitable for harsh environments such as coastal areas, high humidity, and high salt spray. Some high-end models can reach this standard.
IP68: Not only completely dustproof, but also capable of long-term immersion in water without damage. It represents the highest protection level, achievable in a few specially customized products.
